Established in 1975, Hydralada founder Andy Smith delivers the first ever Hydralada.
1976
Early beginnings from Field Equipment.
1978
Phil and Hugh in the very original Hydralada factory.

Hydralada 10m machine sold to Australia for Eucalyptus Seed.
1999
New Omahu Road building under construction to cater for rapid growth, Hastings.
1999
10m Hydralada Machine sold to Parliament House in Canberra Australia.
1999
Very first Pellenc Harvester sold to Judd’s in Gisborne.
1999
New Hydralada Machines sold to apple growers in Chile South America.
2002
6 machines sold to John Paynter, Yummy Fruit Company – more than 20,000 hours later they are still going strong !
2003
Pellenc takes off in New Zealand. Villa Maria picking on the triangle, Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay.
2004
First new machine sold into British Columbia Canada. Snow is no problem!
2006
12 new Maxi 640 Tandem Drive Models sold to Simpson Farms in Bundaberg, Australia.
2007
Hydralada Machines used to bag bananas in Northern Queensland, Australia.
2007
Neighbours fire nearly spreads to Hydralada offices.
2009
Record sales of new Hydraladas for mangos into Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia.
2010
Hydralada Company opens new Blenheim branch.
2011
Hydraladas exported to Thailand for date growers.
2012
New machines delivered to New York State, USA.
2013
Hydralada dominates Australasian Avocado Conference in Tauranga.
2014
New SB Series – the first self levelling machines arrive.
2015
15 new Hydralada Machines supplied to Bostock Orchards, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
2015
End of year staff get-together – how we’ve grown from small beginnings!

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key visits Hydralada head office in Hastings, New Zealand.

Andy Smith
Managing Director
Hydralada Company was established in 1975 by Andy Smith. Andy is the Managing Director and continues to have a lot of input into the Company, both with day-to-day operations and design ideas for new machines. Andy keeps a close watch on all aspects of the business to ensure its continued success.

Matthew Smith
General Manager
Matthew joined the family business in 1995 in the Service & Spares Department, moving to New Machine Production and then to Sales. He gained invaluable knowledge of businesses processes and understanding of mechanical and engineering principles for what is required in manufacturing a world class market leading product along with the importance of customer service and the skill of uncovering and understanding customer’s needs to provide a solution for their requirements.
Most of his time in Sales is bringing our market leading and innovative equipment solutions to NZ vineyards & winery estates. He is also involved in setting up and managing a sales and service branch in Marlborough from March 2010.
While his current role with the company is General Manager and a Director, he likes to see himself as one of the team where together everyone achieves more.

Dan Smith
Company Director
Dan plays a major role in scheduling the production of all new Hydralada Elevating Work Platforms and collaborates the manufacturing at the factory. He is a Company Shareholder and Dan has a lot to do with the everyday operations as well as caring for HR responsibilities.

Grant Smith
Company Director
Grant’s main focus is on sales and he looks after some of the Company’s key dealers in both Australia and the USA. As a Director and Shareholder, Grant is very much involved in the overall management of the Company and his responsibilities include many aspects of everyday administration.

Sales Director
Jason has been working at Hydralada Company since 1987 accumulating 33 years of experience in many different areas of the business. Today his involvement is predominately in sales and marketing. Jason works closely with the management team to ensure the Company continues to grow.

Brendon Van der Gulik
Sales Consultant
Brendon has recently joined the Marlborough sales team and is keen to provide support to the NZ wine industry. Brendon’s previous job with O-I (Owens-Illinois) marketing for the worlds largest glass bottle manufacturer means he already has a lot of contacts in this field. His main emphasis will be on the Pellenc Pera winery equipment for which he has a real passion. Brendon also specialises in the full range of vineyard equipment, including Pellenc Harvesters, ID David weeders, Tow & Blow Frost Fans and Hydralada Trimmers. Josh has been involved with Hydralada new machine production and continues to help in this department. His background in the manufacturing of new machines means he has an excellent understanding of the technical side. Josh’s passion is Tow and Blow frost machines, but he is available to help with all sales inquires including Hydralada and Pellenc Vineyard machinery.

Bradley Smith
Marketing & Design
Brad works in sales marketing and design. He enjoys meeting with customers and uses his video editing skills to get out and about filming Hydralada machinery in the field. He enjoys filming real life customer testimonials which give a personal touch to the Hydralada story. Brad’s experience with website development and design, as well as social media blogs, media advertising, and marketing ideas ensure Hydralada can continue its tradition of quality.

Richard Thomson
Marlborough Branch Coordinator
Richard has been with the company for 12 years and oversees the Marlborough Branch. He is well known in the grape industry and his mechanical background and understanding is invaluable to our customer base. He works hard to ensure all our Pellenc machinery customers have the expected aftersales backup and support. More recently Richard has been involved with technical support for Hydralada in Australia.

Stephen Heap
Workshop Manager
Stephen Heap is our Hastings workshop manager. Stephen’s background is in aircraft maintenance and logistics with 16 years of experience in the RNZAF. He takes care of all technical inquiries and product support for Hydralada MEWP’s, Pellenc Vineyard Equipment, and Bandit Chippers. You will find him friendly and approachable.

TECHNICIAN
A challenging role has become available at our Hastings and Blenheim Branch for a qualified diesel technician with excellent skill levels in mechanical problem solving, hydraulic and electrical diagnosis. A high level of skill in mechanical and computerised diagnostics are essential to this role.
This is a busy role encompassing unsupervised field service work so previous experience would be an advantage. Great customer relations skills are essential. Our Pellenc product range of vineyard equipment, Bandit chippers and Hydralada fruit picking equipment is varied and seasonal providing variety to your workday.
A Top Rate of Pay will be available to a candidate who has the right skill set and can offer some flexibility around our busy harvest period.
